Edward Boateng honoured at EMY Africa awards

Mr. Edward Boateng, a visionary in African media and accomplished diplomat, was honored with the Lifetime Media Excellence Award at the 9th EMY Africa Awards. This accolade celebrates his pivotal role in deregulating African media, fostering private ownership, and championing the continent’s narratives globally.

Boateng dismantled state monopolies, enabling independent media outlets to thrive, and sparking innovation and diverse storytelling. His efforts included bringing CNN to Africa, establishing "Inside Africa," and launching the CNN African Journalists Awards to highlight journalistic excellence.

He founded Global Media Alliance, a trailblazing Ghanaian communication agency, revolutionizing media consumption through integrated services. Collaborating with Silverbird Group, he advanced cinema development across multiple African countries, promoting local content and expanding access to African stories.

Reflecting on his achievements, Boateng emphasized the importance of media in empowering Africans to own their narratives.
