Elon Musk and X's New Rules for Parody Accounts
X is introducing stricter rules for parody accounts. Starting on April 10, these accounts must include keywords like “fake” or “parody” in their names.
Parody account holders must also use different images from the accounts they imitate. This change aims to reduce confusion, especially with accounts impersonating Elon Musk.
Some users have expressed frustration over these confusing parody accounts. One user commented that it was about time for these changes. Another mentioned receiving fake Elon messages almost weekly.
X stated that the updates will also apply to fan and commentary accounts. They encouraged affected users to update their profiles before the enforcement date.
Many parody accounts of Elon Musk exist, using various methods to identify themselves. Posts from these accounts often include memes, jokes, and promotions for cryptocurrency or car giveaways.
One popular parody account has over one million followers. It recently asked users to "like and comment" for a chance to win a Tesla. This post received 428,000 likes and more than 200,000 replies.
