Employment opportunities in Ghana not enough – GSS

Employment opportunities in Ghana not enough – GSS Employment opportunities in Ghana not enough – GSS

The Ghana Statistical Service’s “National Report on Productivity, Employment, and Growth” reveals that while job creation continues in Ghana, it is not enough to absorb the growing working-age population.

The report shows that the employment rate fell from 73.9% in 2000 to 55.7% in 2021. In 2000, 7.43 million people were employed, increasing to 10.2 million in 2010 with a 3.3% annual growth rate; however, by 2021, employment had declined to about 9.99 million, reflecting a 0.7% annual reduction from 2010.

The GSS warns that despite the availability of jobs, more people are seeking decent work defined as productive employment under conditions of freedom, equity, security, and dignity but are unable to secure it due to insufficient opportunities.
