Minister John Abdulai Jinapor outlined a comprehensive five-point agenda at the 2025 Sustainable Energy Policy Dialogue to accelerate Ghana’s renewable energy transition.
He announced plans to establish a Renewable Energy and Green Transition Fund under the Renewable Energy Act, aimed at supporting research and local green technology development while providing solar-powered equipment for sectors such as fishing, CHPS compounds, electric vehicle charging, irrigation, hospitals, universities, and SMEs.
The agenda also seeks to ease electricity tariff burdens on state institutions by freeing up grid-connected power for industrial use and by deploying solar-powered streetlights to enhance community security.
In collaboration with international partners, the government will expedite renewable energy mini-grids to achieve 90% nationwide electricity access, and a forthcoming Bill will create a Renewable Energy Authority to oversee the fund and ensure competitive procurement.
