FAGE pledges to drive non-traditional exports beyond $10 billion by 2030

The Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) met with President John Dramani Mahama on June 3. They aim to make Ghana Africa’s top agricultural exporter. The meeting took place at the Jubilee House.

The FAGE delegation included over 22 associations from various sectors. These sectors include horticulture, agro-processing, textiles, cosmetics, seafood, and handicrafts. Their goal is to strengthen public-private collaboration for boosting non-traditional export revenues.

FAGE's President stated that Ghana is a prime source of tropical produce. He highlighted the country’s strategic location for accessing European markets. This advantage allows year-round production and enhances competitiveness.

FAGE has set an ambitious goal to increase non-traditional exports. They aim to earn over $5 billion in two years and exceed $10 billion by 2030. The horticultural sector will play a key role in achieving this vision.

Recent successes support their confidence. At the Fruit Logistica Fair in Berlin, Ghanaian businesses secured orders worth over $260 million. This demand highlights the appeal of Ghanaian products like mangoes and pineapples.

FAGE made a key request to President Mahama during the meeting. They asked for reinstatement on the boards of GEPA and the Ghana Exim Bank. The FAGE President emphasized their vital role in the export community.

Previously, FAGE had representation on boards related to export development but lost it due to changes. Notable members present included Nuts for Growth, West Africa’s largest shea processor based in Tamale. They also support a cooperative with over 81,000 registered women members.

Other notable attendees were HPW, Blue Skies, Agromonti, Agrocity, and Fidelity Bank. These organizations are recognized for their contributions to the export sector.

President Mahama praised FAGE's efforts and commitment to transforming Ghana’s economy. Government officials stressed the need for strong collaboration with private sector players like FAGE for national development goals.
