Finance Minister to champion policy blocking imports of locally-made goods

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced a new policy direction. This policy will restrict imports of goods that can be made locally.

The goal is to boost domestic manufacturing and create jobs. It also aims to protect local industries.

This announcement came during a meeting with the Plastic Manufacturers Association. The Association raised concerns about challenges in their sector. They called for fairer taxation and highlighted issues with exports and low-quality imports.

The Minister acknowledged these concerns. He emphasized the government's focus on stabilizing the economy. Lowering inflation and reducing exchange rates are also priorities, as they affect port charges.

Additionally, he announced plans to collaborate with the Ghana Revenue Authority. They will work together to address revenue leakages at the ports.
