A fire broke out at the Tema Community One Market early Thursday morning, destroying eight shops on Mangoase Lane. The blaze, which began around 2:00 AM, was swiftly contained by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
A variety of goods, including wigs, sewing machines, clothes, and furniture, were lost in the fire.
Eyewitness and market caretaker, Mr. Kwaku Alebpoorin, believes the fire was caused by electrical faults after seeing sparking cables before the flames erupted.
Although the fire caused significant damage, it was under control by the time traders, including Madam Portia Quaye, arrived on-site.
The GNFS is investigating the incident’s cause while educating traders on fire safety to prevent future occurrences .
