Mark Badu-Aboagye, CEO of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), urged the incoming Mahama administration to abolish burdensome taxes such as the COVID-19 levy and e-levy while reducing high VAT rates, which he says severely impact businesses and consumers.

Speaking on PM Express, Business Edition, he described the current business environment as harsh, citing VAT rates of up to 21% and excessive import duties that stifle growth.

While supporting promises to cut taxes, he cautioned against unfulfilled commitments, referencing past tax reforms that returned in harsher forms.

Badu-Aboagye emphasized the importance of creating a favorable business environment through tax reforms, effective implementation, and accountability to stimulate economic growth and ease the burden on businesses.
