Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has emphasized the importance of multilateralism in fostering global collaboration and increasing women’s participation in international trade.
Speaking at the WTO’s seventh Presidential Lecture in Geneva, she highlighted the role of institutions like the WTO, World Bank, and OECD in developing policies that enhance women’s access to finance and global markets.
Merkel underscored the need for equitable trade policies and supply chain diversification to create more opportunities for women in emerging economies. She also defended multilateral cooperation’s role in economic stability, growth, and poverty reduction.
Additionally, she called for the restoration of the WTO’s Appellate Body to uphold trade agreements and ensure credibility in global trade governance.
