Food and beverage prices are falling; let's push for national price reduction campaign - FABAG

The Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) has announced price drops. Key commodities in the sector are starting to fall. Further reductions are expected in the coming weeks.

During a meeting with the Finance Minister, FABAG's Executive Secretary, John Awuni, shared updates. He confirmed that prices for essential products like sugar and rice have begun to decrease.

“As of today [May 8, 2025], we have reduced sugar prices by about 7%. Rice prices have also corrected by about 10%,” Mr. Awuni stated. He noted that importers are working hard to lower prices. However, others in the supply chain are not responding as needed.

Mr. Awuni stressed the importance of collective action for meaningful relief. “We believe this must be a national effort,” he said. He called for a national campaign for price reductions.

“If others respond, it will benefit ordinary Ghanaians,” he urged.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson praised FABAG's leadership. He encouraged other trade associations, including GUTA, to follow suit and lower their prices.

“We see improvements in the cedi and inflation is slowing,” he noted. “It’s time for businesses to reflect this in their pricing.” The Minister appealed to GUTA and others to support these efforts so Ghanaians can feel the recovery.
