GHACEM Foundation donates 10,000 bags to Northern schools and hospitals

The Ghacem Foundation (GCF) was established in 2002. It aims to improve health and education in deprived communities. This initiative is part of Ghacem's corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Last Monday, on May 19, 2025, a donation ceremony took place in Tamale. Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, the Foundation's Chairman, spoke about its creation. He noted that companies often paid taxes and left without giving back.

He praised Ghacem for breaking this trend in 2002. They decided to support the communities that help their business. Over the years, donations have totaled GH₵58 million. Nana Prah emphasized that this effort is a serious moral responsibility.

He expressed concern about regional disparities in donations. Southern regions request more cement than northern regions do. “It’s unacceptable that children learn in unsafe conditions,” he said passionately.

Nana Prah urged district leaders and citizens to advocate for equity. He encouraged them to apply for support for underserved communities.

Dr. Frank Huber is the Managing Director of Ghacem. He commended the foundation’s Council members for their efforts over the years. Dr. Huber reiterated Ghacem’s commitment to Ghana’s development.

“Employees and customers now ask deeper questions about purpose,” he said. “GHACEM cares about people and the planet.”

He announced an upcoming eco-friendly cement product with lower CO₂ emissions. This marks a significant step toward sustainable manufacturing in Ghana.

“Being a nation builder means treating workers fairly,” Dr. Huber concluded.

Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo, a Council Member of the Foundation, spoke next. She stated that education and health are vital for opportunity and future growth.

She urged northern communities to take advantage of GCF programs by applying for support. “This isn’t just charity; it’s an investment in Ghana’s future,” she added.

Mr. Frank Antwi Agyapong leads the GCF Secretariat at Ghacem. He reported a successful year with positive outcomes from GCF initiatives.

Looking ahead to 2025/2026, he encouraged more institutions to apply for support from GCF. There is cement available but only for those who submit applications.

Schools and hospitals are especially urged to apply before November 2025.

There are two types of applications: one for rehabilitating existing structures and another for new structures at lintel level needing support.

The application process requires several documents:

1) An original letter from the Head of Institution.
2) A letter from the District Director of Education or Health.
3) A letter from a senior government official or community leader.
4) Two pictures of existing structures needing rehabilitation.
5) An expected completion time after receiving cement donations.

Applicants should submit one project application at a time.
