Michael Luguje, Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has urged freight forwarders to declare cargo contents transparently, emphasizing that trust with Customs expedites clearance processes and reduces inspections.
Speaking at the 27th AGM of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) in Ho, themed “Adapting to Global Trade Dynamics: The Role of Freight Forwarders in AfCFTA,” he highlighted freight forwarders’ critical role in fostering transparency to enhance trade efficiency under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Luguje outlined port advancements, including Takoradi’s expanded capacity and plans for Keta Port. Infrastructure improvements, such as Tema Port’s road projects and MPS Terminal 3’s transshipment hub, aim to boost trade.
Legal practitioner Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Mbiah called for stricter sanctions against cargo under-declaration, advocating global best practices. GIFF President Stephen Adjokatcher encouraged freight forwarders to stay informed about trade dynamics to ensure compliance and client guidance.
Partner organizations reaffirmed the industry's importance in driving economic growth.
