GRA hasn't frozen RNAQ’s bank accounts but 'has issued an assessment on him relating to his income taxes'

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has responded to recent claims on social media. These claims suggest that Mr. Richard Nii Armah Quaye's bank accounts have been frozen. They also allege that GRA raised a personal income tax assessment of GHC30 million against him.

In a statement dated Thursday, March 27, 2025, GRA clarified these issues. The authority denied freezing Mr. Quaye’s bank accounts. However, they confirmed that an income tax assessment has been issued.

GRA explained its procedures for handling taxpayer assessments. First, they engage with all taxpayers to assess their incomes. They request voluntary declarations of income and raise assessments if necessary.

Enforcement actions, like garnishing accounts, occur only after non-cooperation from taxpayers. In Mr. Quaye's case, no enforcement action has begun against him.

GRA urges the public to ignore false claims about Mr. Quaye's accounts being frozen. They encourage eligible taxpayers to voluntarily disclose their incomes and pay taxes owed to avoid penalties.

Finally, GRA reassures taxpayers and the public of its commitment to fairness and integrity in its operations.
