GRIDCo restores power after national grid disruption

A nationwide blackout occurred on Thursday evening, April 3.

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) announced that the issue is now resolved.

The power outage affected many areas, including Accra and Kumasi.

It also impacted Sunyani, Techiman, Bui, Tumu, Sawla, and northern regions.

GRIDCo reported that a fault on the Tafo-Nkawkaw transmission line caused the outage at 20:09 hours.

This initial problem led to failures in nearby transmission lines.

Several power plants also shut down due to the situation.

As a result, there were widespread blackouts beyond Kumasi.

GRIDCo’s System Control Centre quickly activated emergency procedures.

They worked to stabilize the national grid and restore power.

Restoration efforts began immediately. By 22:57 hours, electricity was fully restored.

GRIDCo apologized for the inconvenience caused by this disruption.

Dzifa Bampoh, GRIDCo's Corporate Communications Manager, expressed regret.

He stated that "the Ghana Grid Company sincerely apologises to the general public."
