The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has welcomed the Ministry of Finance’s decision to review the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime to provide relief to businesses.
GSA has long advocated for removing VAT on services provided to transit shippers, aligning with global best practices and neighboring countries.
During a working visit to the Ministry of Finance, GSA officials emphasized that the economic benefits of increased transit trade outweigh VAT revenue.
Ministry representatives acknowledged the concerns and invited GSA to submit a proposal for consideration.
Both organizations agreed to enhance awareness of the Exemptions Act to boost international trade. This collaboration is expected to reduce costs for shippers, improve trade facilitation, and strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness in global commerce.
