GUTA happy with Trump’s tariff retreat

Business leaders in Ghana are pleased with U.S. President Donald Trump's decision. He has suspended the 10% tariff on all exports to the United States.

This decision comes amid concerns over high tariffs affecting many trading partners. These tariffs have caused volatility in global financial markets. Ghana was one of the countries impacted, disrupting trade and export activities.

The 10% tariff targeted imports from various countries, including Ghana. Key exports affected included garments, textiles, cashew, shea butter, fruits, vegetables, yam, and cocoa products.

Charles Kusi Appiah is the Head of the Business and Economic Bureau at GUTA. He spoke to Citi Business News about the decision. “When he (Donald Trump) realizes he is biting more than he can chew, hallelujah,” he said.

Appiah also stressed the importance of strengthening trade within Africa. “It’s a wake-up call for us to create markets on our continent,” he added.
