GWCL Accra East launches ‘Operation Recover All Arrears’ to retrieve GHS 270 million in unpaid bills

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Accra East Region, has launched “Operation Recover All Arrears” to retrieve GHS 270 million in unpaid water bills from 168,398 customers.

Regional Communications Manager, Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, revealed that only 30% of customers make payments when billed, straining operations.

With GWCL no longer receiving government subvention, revenue is crucial for water treatment, electricity bills, salaries, and infrastructure. As of February 25, 2025, the company had collected GHS 1.56 million in seven working days.

Efforts are also underway to eliminate illegal connections, with customers rewarded for reporting violations. Additionally, GWCL plans to go paperless, beginning with the Agbogba District.
