Dr. Isaac Adjei Doku, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO), has assured Ghanaians that gas supply to power plants will resume shortly following routine pipeline maintenance.
Speaking on Joy FM, Dr. Doku explained that the maintenance, performed every five years, included an extensive cleaning exercise to ensure pipeline integrity and safety.
Unexpected debris and liquid accumulation caused delays, but the onshore cleaning phase is complete, and gas is being pumped to stabilize pressure for distribution. Dr. Doku expects gas flow to resume by 7 p.m. tonight.
He emphasized the importance of this exercise for long-term efficiency and reliability, acknowledging the inconvenience caused but prioritizing safety as a key consideration during the process. The pipeline spans Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana, with both onshore and offshore segments.
