Launched in June 2022 by the Ghana Association of Banks and GhIPSS, GhanaPay Mobile Money allows users to own a wallet with a bank, bridging the gap between traditional banking and mobile money services. It is open to all mobile phone users in Ghana, with or without a bank account.
GhanaPay offers unique features such as sponsored wallets for fund-sharing and standing instructions for automated payments. Security is a top priority, with PIN and biometric authentication, end-to-end encryption, transaction monitoring, and strict KYC processes to prevent fraud.
Unlike other mobile money services, GhanaPay charges no transaction fees beyond the government’s e-levy, making it a cost-effective choice for transfers, bill payments, and merchant transactions. It operates under the Bank of Ghana’s oversight, ensuring trust and compliance.
