The Ghana Chamber of Mines has expressed condolences to the families affected by recent clashes between illegal miners and state security personnel in Obuasi, Ntotroso, and Kenyase.
The Chamber condemned illegal mining activities, emphasizing their negative effects on safety, the environment, and the mining sector.
CEO Dr. Sulemanu Koney reiterated the Chamber's commitment to responsible mining practices and acknowledged the government's efforts to curb illegal mining. While commending the role of security agencies, the Chamber called for a more comprehensive approach to address the root causes of illegal mining.
It pledged collaboration with the government, civil society, and local communities to promote sustainable practices and protect the sector. The Chamber also urged residents to remain calm and exercise restraint.
