Ghana Federation of Labour calls for reversal of excise duty on fruit juices and sweetened beverages Ghana Federation of Labour calls for reversal of excise duty on fruit juices and sweetened beverages

The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has petitioned the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry to reconsider the excise duties imposed on fruit juice and sweetened beverage producers under the Excise Duty (Amendment) Act 2023 (Act 1093).

The GFL argues that these taxes are “debilitating” and “politically motivated,” leading to increased production costs, reduced competitiveness, job losses, and potential industry collapse.

They also claim that the tax rationale is unfounded and not supported by Ghana’s Food and Drug Authority.

The GFL urges the government to reverse the excise duties to safeguard jobs, economic stability, and the financial viability of local businesses.
