The Ghana Association of Real Estate Brokers (GAREB) has launched the Ghana Institution of Real Estate Brokers to enhance professionalism and capacity-building in the real estate industry.
The institution will train brokers and agents, aligning with the Real Estate Agency Law, and promote ethical practices. At its inaugural session, 39 individuals were certified under GAREB's strict code of ethics, with mechanisms to discipline breaches.
GAREB aims to curb unethical practices, such as upfront payments for property viewings and plans to issue membership cards for certified professionals. The initiative addresses the damaged reputation of the sector and seeks to restore public trust.
Additionally, the Real Estate Agency Council, established under the Real Estate Agency Act, 2020 (Act 1047), will enforce licensing, streamline operations, and promote transparency.
It plans to register all industry participants, enforce continuous professional development, and implement QR-code verification for brokers. The Council also targets money laundering risks and emphasizes public education to encourage engagement with licensed professionals.
