Graduates from the Advanced Diploma in Insurance (Advanced Applied Insurance Studies) were honored.
The class of 2023 included 22 students specializing in Claims, 24 in Insurance Broking, 41 in Advanced Underwriting, and 10 in Life and Health Insurance.
Baba Mahama was the Guest Speaker at the event. He is the President of the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International, Ghana. Mahama is also a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Insurer. He previously served as CEO of Vanguard Assurance and President of the Ghana Insurers Association.
Dr. Abiba Zakariah conferred awards to graduating students. She is the Commissioner of Insurance and Chairperson of GIC’s Governing Council. Richard Okyere, GIC’s Director, presented their certificates.
Okyere also awarded outstanding students across three study categories: Certificate in Insurance, Advanced Insurance Studies Diploma, and Advanced Applied Insurance Studies Diploma.
Amaweklu Mamah from Metropolitan Life Insurance was named Overall Best Student for Certificate in Insurance 2024. Doreen Ewoenan Asamany from Enterprise Life received the overall best award for Diploma in Insurance 2024.
Special Awards went to five graduates for various subjects including personal lines insurances and commercial property insurance.
For the class of 2023, Elizabeth Quandzie from Glico General and Mavis Nimako from SIC General shared the overall best student award for Advanced Diploma in Insurance.
Special Awards recognized outstanding students in compulsory subjects like economics & business and insurance regulation.
Awards were also given for electives within the Advanced Diploma program such as advanced claims management and life underwriting.
Doreen Ewoenan Asamany received a special award as Overall Best Female Student for her diploma class. Elizabeth Quandzie and Mavis Nimako shared this honor for their advanced diploma class.
The GIC was established in 2006 to train insurance professionals in Ghana. Key stakeholders include the National Insurance Commission, Ghana Insurers Association, IBAG, and CIIG.
The college operates under a Governing Board, an Academic Board, and a Management Team. It currently has 34 lecturers who are experienced leaders in Ghana's insurance industry.
To date, 107 alumni have achieved Associateship through GIC programs.
