Ghana government aims to borrow GH¢6.7b in upcoming treasury bills auction

The government plans to borrow GH¢6.7 billion in June 2025.

This announcement came from the Bank of Ghana (BoG). It follows a tender held on May 30, 2025.

The upcoming auction, called tender 1958, will offer three types of treasury bills. These are the 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day bills for primary dealers.

The government's borrowing reflects its reliance on domestic debt instruments. Plans are underway to return to the capital markets.

In the previous auction (Tender 1956) on May 23, 2025, bids totaled GH¢6.54 billion. The government accepted GH¢5.97 billion from those bids.

In the latest auction, all bids were fully accepted. This included GH¢2.7 billion for the 91-day bill, GH¢544.06 million for the 182-day bill, and GH¢286.17 million for the 364-day bill.

The notice stated that only primary dealers can participate in this wholesale auction. They must act as market makers.

However, the investing public can join through depository participants like primary dealers in the secondary market.
