On December 2, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched Ghana's new chip-embedded biometric passport (E-passport) in Accra, aimed at improving travel processes and national security.

The E-passport, featuring advanced biometric technology, is designed to prevent identity theft and fraud, meeting International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

The new passport offers enhanced security, with a microchip that resists tampering and forgery. It ensures efficient processing for Ghanaian travelers at international airports with modern biometric systems.

This initiative is part of a broader passport reform, including upgraded security document printers and a streamlined online application platform.

The project was a collaboration between the government, private sector, and various stakeholders.
