Ghanaian and Nigerian authorities are finalizing plans to return two kidnapped women to Ghana.
The victims, Anastasia Badu-Atta and Evelyn Serwaa Konadu, pleaded for help in a viral video.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor provided an update on their situation. She confirmed that the women are safe and receiving treatment. They will soon be reunited with their families.
DCOP Donkor stated that the suspects are currently in Nigerian custody. These suspects will be brought to Ghana for further investigation.
"Both suspects and victims are with Nigerian authorities," she said. Efforts are underway to transport the victims back to Ghana.
The Director General noted a joint operation led to the women's rescue on May 1, 2025. This operation involved the Ghana Police Service, National Signals Bureau, and Nigeria Police Force.
The viral video sparked national concern and public outrage over the kidnapping. Eight suspects have been arrested: five Ghanaians and three Nigerians.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of GH¢500,000. However, the victims’ families only managed to pay GH¢18,000 before arrests were made, according to CID officials.
