Ghana ranks 7th globally among the biggest beneficiaries of World Bank funding, having received US$11.2 billion in International Development Association (IDA) support from 1961 to 2024.
The top three recipients are Ethiopia (US$23.4 billion), Nigeria (US$18.8 billion), and Vietnam (US$18.5 billion). Notably, eight of the ten largest beneficiaries are from Sub-Saharan Africa.
Since its inception, IDA has allocated over US$287 billion to the world's poorest nations, with Sub-Saharan Africa receiving about 73% of these funds.
Other regions receiving substantial support include East Asia (US$41.8 billion), Europe and Central Asia (US$17.5 billion), and Latin America (US$11.2 billion), while the Middle East received the least at US$7.1 billion.
