According to the Ghana Statistical Service, Ghana recorded a trade surplus of GH₵20.5 billion in Q4 2024, up from GH₵6.1 billion in the same period in 2023.
The quarter's total trade value was GH₵165.4 billion, with GH₵92.9 billion in exports and GH₵72.4 billion in imports.
Gold remained Ghana’s top export, contributing 53.6% of total exports, followed by crude petroleum and cocoa products. Meanwhile, mineral fuels and oils saw a decline in export share.
Diesel and motor spirit (super) dominated imports, accounting for GH₵13.1 billion.
Despite the nominal trade surplus, real trade, which adjusts for inflation, showed a GH₵2.2 billion deficit in Q4. While the total trade value increased significantly, real trade growth was only GH₵7.0 billion over the year.
