Dr. Gideon Boako, MP for Tano North, has emphasized the transformative role of digitalization in Ghana’s economic growth, crediting former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for championing this shift.
Speaking during the 2025 budget debate on March 18, Dr. Boako highlighted that, for the first time, Ghana’s economic growth was primarily driven by digital transactions rather than traditional sectors like cocoa, gold, and oil.
Citing data from the Government Statistical Service (GSS), he noted that in 2024, Ghana’s economy grew by a record 1.2 trillion cedis in nominal terms, with digitalization playing a key role. He described this as a new era in Ghana’s economic development and praised Bawumia’s leadership in advancing digital reforms over the past eight years.
