Ghana’s economic transformation has not met expectations – ACET

The Africa Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) reports that Ghana's industrial and manufacturing sectors have not met expectations due to macroeconomic instability, weak private sector support, and poor industrial policies.

Despite efforts, limited innovation, inadequate infrastructure, and weak linkages with the extractive sector hinder progress.

ACET recommends prioritizing SMEs, strengthening agro-based industrial development, and improving supply chains and energy infrastructure. Additionally, Ghana faces environmental risks, including pollution from illegal mining and poor waste management.

The report urges policies that drive industrial competitiveness, technological advancement, and environmental sustainability through its Growth with DEPTH framework, which promotes gender-responsive policymaking and economic diversification. Addressing these issues is crucial for long-term economic transformation.
