Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson met with Chinese Ambassador H.E. Tong Defa. They discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Ghana and China.
The meeting covered several important topics. These included building a second gas processing plant, major infrastructure projects, and debt restructuring.
Dr. Forson highlighted the success of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant. This plant was built with China's support when he was Deputy Minister. He stated, "It’s now time to build a second gas processing plant."
He also talked about major infrastructure projects announced by the President. One key project is the Accra-Kumasi Expressway. Dr. Forson emphasized the need for support from partners like China before the Mid-Year Budget Review.
He referenced a Chinese saying: "If you want to get rich, build roads first." This highlights the importance of investing in infrastructure development.
Dr. Forson noted that many Chinese-funded projects in Ghana are nearing completion. He expressed hope that new projects will start soon.
Additionally, he requested China's support for Ghana's debt restructuring efforts. The Chinese Ambassador welcomed this engagement and confirmed China's readiness to assist.
He also mentioned that a bilateral agreement and development partnership are ready for signing.
