Former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei-Asare, has criticized President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), accusing him of ignoring the economic recovery under the previous NPP administration.
She argued that while the NPP acknowledged Ghana’s economic challenges, they took decisive actions that led to IMF approval and financial sector stability.
She highlighted key economic improvements, including increased banking sector assets, private sector credit growth, and a rise in gross international reserves.
Osei-Asare dismissed Mahama’s claims of economic mismanagement, pointing to GDP growth, a positive primary balance, and exceeding revenue targets. She criticized his social programs for lacking a clear funding strategy and warned against excessive public spending.
She also expressed skepticism about Mahama’s National Economic Dialogue, urging him to focus on policy execution rather than political rhetoric.
