The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Ghanaian traders to comply with Burkina Faso’s ongoing ban on exporting cereals and white beans, citing potential sanctions for violations.

The ban, reaffirmed in official communiqués from December 2023 and November 2024, prohibits exports of staples like rice, maize, millet, sorghum, and cowpeas to safeguard Burkina Faso’s food security amid grain shortages and rising prices.

Ghana, a key importer, may face supply disruptions and price hikes. The Ministry advises traders to seek alternative sources and adjust supply chains. Ghana’s diplomatic missions are monitoring the situation and engaging Burkinabe authorities for possible resolutions.

Traders are urged to adhere to the restrictions to avoid penalties while ensuring market stability through alternative sourcing strategies.
