The competition honors teachers for their impact on students' lives. It recognizes their efforts in preparing learners for the future. Portia, a dedicated teacher, also led fundraising to improve education access. Her contributions helped her win the award.
Pakro is a remote farming community with challenges like high pupil absence and teenage pregnancy. Portia works hard to change her students' lives. She was nominated for her food and sanitary product drives, Gender Club, and support for girls’ education.
Portia received surprising news during a video call from Rod Smith. She thought she was accepting a regional award but learned she won globally. Cambridge colleagues visited her school with NNF Esquire to present the global award and £500 worth of books.
They were joined by local education officials and the Pakro community to celebrate Portia's achievement. Upon receiving her award, Portia expressed gratitude to her students as her inspiration. She believes in every child's potential and the power of education.
Rod Smith praised Portia's dedication beyond teaching duties. He noted that some educators are born to teach with deep passion. Portia inspires hope and encourages students to envision their futures.
As part of her prize, Portia can choose a course from Cambridge’s Enrichment Professional Development program. She will also be featured as the overall winner in new Cambridge textbooks available in November 2025. Additionally, she will appear in Cambridge promotions throughout the year.
