Dr. Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano, has refuted President John Mahama’s claim that Ghana’s Sinking Fund held only $64,000 and GHS143,000 as of early 2025.

In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, Mahama’s revelation contradicted the previous Akufo-Addo administration’s assertions of leaving substantial financial buffers for debt repayment.

Dr. Boako, in a Facebook post, accused the government of selectively citing figures from August 2024, when the NPP last made payments to bondholders, rather than balances as of January 6, 2025.

He maintained that significant funds had been accumulated, including a GHS700 million auction excess and an additional GHS3 billion in end-of-year revenue.

Challenging the government to publish official records, Dr. Boako emphasized the need for transparency and dismissed Mahama’s claims as misleading.
