Gov’t must be deliberate in empowering businesspeople – Seidu Agongo

Businessman Seidu Agongo has called on the Ghanaian government to empower local businesses. He believes economic growth relies on strategic and inclusive policies.

In an interview with Metro TV, Mr. Agongo emphasized the need for government support. He stated that this support should extend beyond family and political ties. A proactive approach is essential for national development.

“Becoming successful requires deliberate effort,” he said. “The government must empower businesspeople outside of your circle. If we empower the right people, we will succeed.”

He compared economic empowerment to colonialism. He argued that both require intentional policies to promote local enterprises.

Mr. Agongo also highlighted agriculture as a vital area for investment. He warned that spending 60 to 70 percent of income on food poses significant risks.

“Food is crucial; we cannot live without it,” he stated. “People steal out of desperation, driven by hunger.”

He suggested redirecting unemployed youth into agriculture, making it a respected field for professionals.

“No matter your profession—doctor or lawyer—you can enter agriculture,” he noted. “Much of our land is unused, and we must take control of our future.”

Mr. Agongo expressed concerns about genetically modified organisms (GMOs) entering Ghana. He believes external control over food production could deepen economic dependency.
