President John Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to becoming a hub for international summits, business conventions, and high-profile gatherings through Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism.
While the global MICE market is projected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2028, Ghana’s infrastructure lags behind competitors like South Africa. The National Theatre and Accra International Conference Centre can host 1,500–5,000 delegates, whereas South Africa’s top convention centres accommodate 20,000+ people.
Experts emphasize Ghana’s safety, business environment, and connectivity as key advantages. Countries like Rwanda have doubled MICE revenue, highlighting its potential as a major economic driver.
With MICE delegates spending five times more than regular tourists, Ghana aims to upgrade infrastructure and attract global events to boost its economy.
