Government not interested in renegotiating IMF deal extension - Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated that the Mahama-led administration will not renegotiate the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme extension.

He emphasized that the government is focused on completing the current programme. The goal is to stabilize Ghana's economy.

During a joint press conference, Dr. Forson highlighted that achieving the programme's objectives is a priority. He noted that renegotiating would suggest a lack of confidence in the programme.

"Renegotiating implies disbelief in the programme," he explained. "The government is committed to implementing it and achieving its objectives."

Dr. Forson also announced an upcoming initiative called the Public Financial Management (PFM) Commitment Control Compliance League Table.

This initiative will monitor and publish compliance levels by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with fiscal commitments under the PFM Act.

"We have started operationalizing the Compliance Desk at the Ministry of Finance," he said. This desk will track MDAs' compliance with their fiscal commitments.

"We will soon publish a PFM Commitment Control Compliance League Table," he added. This table will rank MDAs based on their compliance and non-compliance with fiscal controls and expenditure monitoring measures.
