The government has proposed raising the Growth & Sustainability Levy on mining companies from 1% to 3% of gross production to ensure Ghana benefits from rising global gold prices.
Announcing the 2025 Budget, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson also proposed extending the levy’s sunset clause until 2028 to provide stability for the industry. The move aims to enhance revenue streams and ensure mining contributes more to national development.
While mining companies may face higher operational costs, the government sees this as essential for maximizing resource benefits for citizens. The extended sunset clause offers clarity for businesses while allowing the government to focus on sustainable economic growth.
The additional revenue is expected to support infrastructure and human capital development in Ghana.
