The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has revoked all small-scale mining licenses issued after 7 December 2024, reinforcing efforts to combat illegal mining and protect the environment.

Announced on 19 March 2025, the decision aligns with broader strategies, including stricter excavator import controls and a ban on floating mining equipment.

Meanwhile, Parliament is debating L.I. 2462, which currently allows controlled mining in forest reserves. Its repeal, supported by conservation advocates, aims to curb environmental destruction and illegal mining. The measure is expected to enhance forest conservation and promote sustainable resource management.

These actions highlight the government’s renewed commitment to tackling illegal mining and ensuring the long-term protection of Ghana’s natural resources.
