The government is being urged to introduce policies that will boost growth in the manufacturing sector a key component of its 24-Hour Economy program.

John Awuni, Executive Chairman of the Food and Beverages Association of Ghana, criticized excessive taxation, particularly the 20% Excise tax imposed by the previous NPP government, for stifling development in the beverage industry.

He explained that this high tax rate has led to idle plant capacity and made it difficult for Ghanaian manufacturers to remain competitive in the sub-region.

Awuni argued that repealing the 20% Excise tax on beverages would not only stimulate growth and generate additional tax revenue but also create new employment opportunities.
