Govt rules out immediate reduction in transport fares

Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has assured Ghanaians about transport fares. He stated that fares will remain unchanged for now. This comes despite recent reductions in fuel prices.

There are growing public calls for lower fares. These calls follow previous threats from transport unions to raise prices during fuel hikes.

Mr. Nikpe mentioned that the Ministry is engaging with transport unions and operators. He noted that any fare changes follow a well-established formula. “I am in constant touch with the unions and transport operators,” he said.

He emphasized the need for collaboration to maintain stability in the sector. Mr. Nikpe reassured commuters that prices will stay steady for now. “We are working together, and Ghanaians should be rest assured,” he added.

The Ministry aims to balance commuter relief with operational sustainability for transport operators. Discussions on possible fare reviews are ongoing.
