The government is allocating $7 million in grants to eight plastic recycling companies to boost their operations.
The Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology stated that recipients, including Universal Plastic Products and Recycling Ghana (UPPR), will use the funds to enhance plastic waste collection, recycling, and reuse.
During a tour of recycling companies in Accra, Minister Murtala Mohammed emphasized the need to expand support for circular economy businesses. He questioned how to manage the 90% of plastic waste that remains unrecycled and urged companies to create job opportunities after receiving funding.
The initiative is part of the government’s plan to develop a circular economy framework for Ghana’s plastic sector, with further funding decisions pending facility visits.
