Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has made it clear that the government has no intention of renegotiating or extending Ghana’s current deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Speaking at a joint press briefing in Accra, Dr. Forson reaffirmed the administration’s full commitment to executing the programme’s targets and restoring macroeconomic stability.

“Renegotiating would mean we don’t believe in the programme—we do,” he stated. He acknowledged inherited shortfalls in structural and fiscal targets but said decisive measures are underway to realign with IMF benchmarks.

These include commissioning the Auditor-General and two global firms to audit government arrears within eight weeks, amending the Procurement Act to tighten spending controls, and launching a compliance league table to monitor how Ministries and Agencies adhere to public financial management rules.

The minister emphasized that the reforms aim to strengthen budget discipline, restore credibility, and improve debt sustainability without deviating from the IMF path.
