Hajj Village is a commercial venture, not government-funded – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, clarified that the Hajj Village project is a commercial initiative by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and is not funded by the government.

Speaking on Citi FM on March 3, he emphasized that the project is designed to cater to a specific clientele with the objective of generating profit and dividends for the government, its shareholder.

Drawing parallels with the successful Terminal 3 project where GACL invested $276 million and established a VIP lounge, he noted that the Hajj Village is a strategic move to capitalize on the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

This niche market will enable GACL to charge fees to thousands of pilgrims, reinforcing that the facility is a business decision aimed at enhancing GACL’s financial sustainability.
