President John Mahama's Commitment to Leadership

President John Dramani Mahama has promised to lead by example. He spoke at the Four-Day Ministerial Executive Leadership Programme Retreat in Ada, Greater Accra Region.

He emphasized his commitment to transforming Ghana's economy. "I’ll lead by example," he stated. He urged Ministers to uphold discipline, transparency, and accountability.

Mahama warned that he would take action if anyone falls short. "Ghana deserves nothing less," he said. He encouraged everyone to work for results, not applause.

The retreat's theme was "Re-Imagining Leadership in a Reset Ghana." President Mahama described it as a call to action. It aims to shape a people-centered and innovative leadership mindset.

He reminded Ministers that their party’s future depends on their legacy. "We must give it our all," he stressed. Collaboration is essential for the success of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The President outlined bold reforms like the 24-Hour Economy and the Big Push. These initiatives aim to create jobs and boost productivity in Ghana. They will help position Ghana as a leader in Africa.

To achieve this, attracting local and international investment is crucial. "We must build trust with investors," Mahama said. The government should be reliable for both investors and citizens.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration with private sectors and development partners. Development requires shared responsibility and innovative financing today.

Mahama noted that global dynamics are changing rapidly due to climate change and terrorism threats in West Africa. Aid is declining while multilateral systems face pressure.

Ministers must work hard for Ghana’s progress, according to Mahama. "We must promote peace and advance the African agenda," he stated.

He called for leaders who understand these challenges within and beyond government. Training future leaders is vital for creating an equitable global order.

Regarding the retreat structure, Mahama emphasized Cabinet orientation sessions' importance. These sessions will help Ministers execute their mandates effectively as a team.

"Government is a collective enterprise," he explained. Success relies on aligning efforts across sectors, not just individual performance.

Mahama encouraged participants to leave with clarity of purpose and humility to learn continuously. "This job is about listening, engaging, adapting, and delivering."

He thanked the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for its support in organizing the retreat.

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was a guest speaker at the event. He urged President Mahama to invest more in education for socioeconomic development in Ghana.

"If we must move Africa forward, then Ghana must move forward," Jonathan concluded.
