Dr. Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano North, has refuted claims that scrapping the e-levy and betting tax would violate Ghana’s agreement with the IMF.
Speaking at a Minority press conference, Dr. Boako clarified that he never made such a statement and that the matter had been misrepresented.
He emphasized that the decision to remove these taxes is in line with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto, as championed by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Dr. Boako explained that Bawumia has consistently opposed such taxes, citing a 2020 interview on Peace FM. He called for a focus on Ghana’s broader economic recovery goals rather than misinterpreting the party’s tax policy intentions.
