A seminar will be held to build capacity for insurance practitioners in Ghana. It will also provide a networking platform for participants.
Eighteen institutions are sponsoring the event. These include two reinsurance companies, eight general insurers, four life insurers, and two insurance groups. There is also one micro-insurer and one dedicated insurance consortium involved.
The reinsurers are WAICA Re and Ghana Re. The general insurers include Loyalty Insurance, SIC Insurance, Ghana Union Assurance, Enterprise Insurance, Priority Insurance, Millennium Insurance, Serene Insurance, and Activa International Insurance. The life insurers are Impact Life, Quality Life, SIC Life, and Enterprise Life.
The insurance groups are Hollard Group and Star Assurance Group. The micro-insurer is aYo. The dedicated consortium is the Ghana Oil and Gas Insurance Pool.
The seminar will feature skilled insurers and reinsurers from Ghana. Experts in marketing, corporate communications, economics, management, and IT will also attend.
The first day's topic is “Transformational Leadership in Driving Innovation and Resilience.” Michael Kofi Andoh will be the main speaker. He is the former acting Commissioner of the National Insurance Commissioner. Five experts from Ghana will discuss this topic alongside Mulenga Mutati from Zambia as a discussant.
On the second and third days, there will be breakout sessions. One session focuses on life insurance with five speakers: Nashiru Iddrisu (Hollard Life), Mrs Kakra Duffuor-Nyarko (Star Life), Maame Dufie Achampong-Kyei (Glico Life), Emmanuel Jonah (GN Reinsurance), and Alfred Ludwig Kissiedu (Red Pear Communications).
Another session addresses non-life insurance with speakers including Dr Kwaku Appietu-Ankrah (Ghana Reinsurance) and Farris E. Attrickie (Priority Insurance). Other speakers include Charles Graham-Mensah (Glico General), Mrs Freda Larbi (Enterprise), and Professor Patrick Assuming (University of Ghana).
There will also be a session on actuarial issues featuring John Mensah from Gal Consulting & Advisory Services and Samuel Noonoo from the Actuarial Society of Ghana.
Additional breakout sessions will cover Information Technology and Accounting topics. Three technical presentations are also planned during the seminar.
