President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has lauded Ghana’s IMF program, emphasizing its success and contribution to a robust economic recovery. Delivering his final State of the Nation Address, he highlighted achievements such as improved macroeconomic stability, fiscal discipline, and investor confidence.
The program has led to reduced inflation, a stabilized currency, and enhanced debt sustainability. Ghana has successfully passed three IMF reviews, with the latest resulting in a $360 million disbursement in December 2024, bringing total disbursements to $1.92 billion.
The IMF collaboration focused on debt sustainability, fiscal consolidation, and structural reforms. President Akufo-Addo declared the economic crisis over, attributing the accelerated recovery to these reforms, which he described as challenging but necessary for Ghana’s long-term growth prospects.
