IMF urges US and global partners to resolve trade disputes - Ghana Business News

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged the United States to resolve trade tensions. This is necessary to prevent a further slowdown in economic growth.

On April 2, US President Donald Trump imposed export tariffs. These tariffs range from 10 to 50 percent on Ghana and over 180 countries. He cited a national emergency due to foreign trade practices.

Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, expressed concerns about this decision. She warned it could significantly impact the global economic outlook amid sluggish growth.

“We appeal to the United States and its trading partners,” she stated. “Work constructively to resolve trade tensions and reduce uncertainty.”

Georgieva mentioned that the IMF is evaluating the macroeconomic implications of these tariffs. She emphasized the importance of avoiding actions that could harm the world economy further.

The IMF will release its findings in the World Economic Outlook later this month. This will occur during its Spring Meetings with the World Bank.
